Evening session of the first competition day at World Cup event in artistic gymnastics included Men competing on Vault, Parallel Bars and High Bar and Women competing on Balance Beam and Floor.
Yernar Yerimbetov (KAZ) leads the men field on Vault with 15.962 points in two attempts and 16.325 for his best jump — the highest score for individual jumps in competition. Beijing Olympic Games bronze medalist Anton Golotsutskov delivered harder content equally well, but with 0.3 points deduction had to settle for the second place (15.925). Latvia’s Evgeni Sapronenko is distant third with 15.737. The runner-up from the last year Gymnastic World Cup Final Jeffrey Wammes (NED) is fifth (15.587).
Excellent execution of his combination on Parallel Bars propelled Aliaksandr Tsarevich (BLR) to the first place in qualifying round on the apparatus (15.075) ahead of Yernar Yerimbetov (KAZ, 14.925) and 2007 World Champion Mitja Petsovsek (SLO, 14.850), who presented more challenging combinations. This discipline was the only one there the hosts failed to qualify a competitor for the final as 13.575 points earned by the debutant Emin Garibov were enough only for 18th place.
On High Bar the winner of the latest World Cup Final in Madrid Epke Zonderland (NED) finished first (15.475) ahead of the defending champion Anatoly Vasilyev (RUS, 15.325) and decorated Aljaz Pegan (SLO, 15.075).
Quality of execution rather than attempted difficulty decided the outcome of the qualifying round on Balance Beam: Netherlands’ Sanne Wevers scored 8.800, which combined with the base value of 5.50, allowed her to finish first with 14.300 points in total, followed by Ethiene Franco (BRA, 14.075) and Adela Shajn (SLO, 14.050). Two Russian competitors Ekaterina Kurbatova (13.800) and Kristina Goryunova (13.675) are currently fourth and fifth, with Goryunova’s combination earning the highest base value of the night (5.90).
On Floor silver medalist from the Maribor competition Anna Myzdrikova (RUS) gave solid performance of the most difficult program in the session to finish first in qualifying with 14.400 points, while Brazil’s Ethienne Franco improved on her fifth-place finish at the same event with the highest execution mark to earn yet another second place in qualifying with 13.875 points. Valentyna Holenkova (UKR), who finished 6th at the recent European Championships in Milan, is third (13.575). Russia’s Yulia Berger rounded up the list of the finalists (12.875).
