Press-release №4
The Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation has invited the vice-president of European Gymnastics Union Georges Guelzec and the vice-president of the International Gymnastics Federation Michel Leglise to Moscow for a private visit.
Both gymnastic leaders were impressed with the level of organization of the Moscow stage of the FIG World Cup, the «World Stars». Georges Guelzec mentioned that the Moscow competition definitely belongs to the top five international events of the season alongside with Paris-Bercy-Masters, and events in Glasgow and Stuttgart. The UEG vice-president also pointed out that such an excellent organization of an event is rare thing. In his opinion Muscovites succeeded at all fronts: in providing the appropriate equipment, in attracting strong competitors, in organization of judging process as well as in providing excellent accommodation and transportation for athletes, coaches and judges. Mr. Guelzec believes that Moscow is ready to host gymnastic competitions of any level, up to World Championships.
Michel Leglise said that Moscow application to host 2013 World Championships would be considered very carefully.
— Of course Moscow will have to compete with other candidate cities on the equal ground and in full accordance with FIG regulations. However, I’m certain that should Russia win the right to host such a high-level gymnastics forum, Moscow will succeed in organizing one of the most beautiful World Championships in the history of the sport.
Mr. Leglise also mentioned the question of limiting the age of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore participants to 15.
— Those Games are hold under the auspice of the International Olympic Committee and all regulations are up to them. Perhaps, if the FIG were in charge we would have suggested an age ’corridor’, but IOC specialists considered it unnecessary. They reasoned that we have to protect the health of the teens, and as I doctor I could not help by agree.
